About Us

ETK, short for Erfurter Triebwerkskonzern was founded in 1899 by Wolfram Borchert, with the goal to make airplanes available to the masses. The company got it's first real growth during World War 1, being forced by the German government to produce fighter planes for the war. The following depression hit ETK hard, almost forcing the company into bankruptcy, being saved by the Austrian investor Karl Huber.

Huber bought ETK and started building cheap cars for the masses on contracts from other manufacturers. After the end of WW2, ETK expanded even more, now focussing less and less on cheap cars and tackling the luxury segment. By 1962, ETK was Germany's biggest car manufacturer.

In 1975, a seperate division for trucks and commercial verhicles was founded, with a following sales explosion making it Germany's biggest truck manufacturer by 1977.

In the 1980s, ETK started focussing more and more on both luxury, but also sportiness and modern technologies. Many great cars came from that era, such as the legendary 2400 Series.

History of the most prestigeous car company. In the world.
